Aalto University Mechanical Engineering Master’s Thesis Guide: 30 ECTS thesis, public seminar এবং School of Engineering process

Aalto University-এর Master’s Programme in Mechanical Engineering School of Engineering-এর 120 ECTS Master of Science (Technology) degree। Current 2026–2028 curriculum-এ সাতটি major আছে: Arctic Marine Technology, Engineering Materials, Marine Technology, Mechatronics, Product Development, Production Engineering এবং Solid Mechanics।

Majorগুলোর technical thesis topic আলাদা হতে পারে, কিন্তু current Aalto instructions অনুযায়ী এদের জন্য সাতটি আলাদা thesis administration নেই। সব major একই programme-level Mechanical Engineering thesis process এবং common School of Engineering Master’s Thesis Guidelines follow করে।

Current structure:

• EME.thes Master's Thesis: 30 ECTS;
• ENG.matr Maturity Test: 0 ECTS;
• recommended thesis period: second-year spring;
• expected workload: প্রায় 800 hours / six months full-time;
• written thesis: individual work;
• supervision: eligible School of Engineering supervisor + সাধারণত one or two advisors;
• topic/supervisor approval: MyStudies;
• presentation: compulsory public Mechanical Engineering seminar;
• maturity: thesis abstract maturity essay হিসেবে কাজ করে; এবং
• grading: School of Engineering-এর 0–5 evaluation framework ও Degree Programme Committee।

সাতটি major-এর জন্য এক shared thesis process

Current majors হলো Arctic Marine Technology, Engineering Materials, Marine Technology, Mechatronics, Product Development, Production Engineering এবং Solid Mechanics। Research methodology major অনুযায়ী বদলাবে, কিন্তু topic approval, supervisor, presentation, maturity, submission এবং grading process shared।

তাই সাতটি আলাদা administrative guide বানানো current evidence-এর সঙ্গে মিলবে না। Marine Technology thesis simulation বা experiment-heavy হতে পারে, Product Development prototype বা design research ব্যবহার করতে পারে, Solid Mechanics numerical modelling ব্যবহার করতে পারে; কিন্তু administrative thesis route একই।

Degree-এর মধ্যে thesis কোথায় থাকে

Mechanical Engineering degree মোট 120 ECTS: 60 ECTS major studies, 30 ECTS electives এবং 30 ECTS master’s thesis। Current thesis code EME.thes; maturity component ENG.matr 0 ECTS।

Aalto second-year spring-কে recommended thesis period হিসেবে দেখায় এবং topic search তার আগেই শুরু করতে বলে। School of Engineering guidance অনুযায়ী bachelor’s degree complete থাকতে হবে এবং major-এর relevant advanced knowledge যথেষ্ট হওয়া দরকার।

Written thesis individual হতে হবে

School of Engineering-এর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ rule হলো: master’s thesis-এর written part pair বা group work হিসেবে করা যাবে না। Thesis independent individual work হিসেবে assess হয়।

Research group, company project বা larger experiment-এর অংশ হিসেবে কাজ করা সম্ভব, কিন্তু নিজের research question, analysis এবং written thesis independent হতে হবে। BIZ programmes-এর pair-thesis rules Mechanical Engineering-এ apply করা যাবে না।

প্রায় 800 hours এবং six months ধরে plan করুন

30 ECTS thesis-এর workload Aalto প্রায় 800 hours, অর্থাৎ প্রায় six months of full-time study হিসেবে describe করে। এটি planning baseline। Lab access, experiments, simulations, prototype development বা external data delay calendar বাড়াতে পারে।

তবে schedule management evaluation-এর অংশ হতে পারে। Agreed schedule অযথা অনেক বেশি exceed করলে grade কমতে পারে; student-এর control-এর বাইরে delay হলে সেটি mitigating circumstance হিসেবে consider হতে পারে।

Supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agreed thesis deadline topic approval থেকে সর্বোচ্চ one year পর্যন্ত set করা যায়, কিন্তু normal recommended workload still approximately six months।

Topic এবং supervisor কীভাবে খুঁজবেন

Mechanical Engineering-এ ready-made department topic নেওয়া যায় অথবা নিজের topic supervisor-এর কাছে propose করা যায়। Ready-made topics Aalto-user-only wiki-তে থাকে, তাই public guide-এ current topic advertisements reproduce করা নিরাপদ নয়।

Practical sequence:

1. major-এর সঙ্গে related research area identify করুন;
2. suitable supervisor-এর সঙ্গে ready-made বা own topic নিয়ে discuss করুন;
3. topic academically agree করুন; এবং
4. MyStudies-এ official topic ও supervisor approval-এর জন্য apply করুন।

Supervisor খুঁজে পাওয়া কঠিন হলে supervisor information ছাড়াও topic approval apply করা সম্ভব; programme director বা head of major supervisor appoint করতে পারেন।

Supervisor এবং advisor roles

Current School of Engineering rules অনুযায়ী Professor, Adjunct Professor, Professor of Practice, Senior University Lecturer বা Principal University Lecturer thesis supervise করতে পারেন, applicable appointment rules অনুযায়ী।

Thesis-এ one or two advisors থাকতে পারে। Advisor-এর অন্তত master’s degree থাকতে হবে। Company expert, Aalto researcher, doctoral student বা specialised university teacher advisor হতে পারেন।

Supervisor academic requirements এবং thesis suitability নিশ্চিত করেন। Advisor সাধারণত technical execution, empirical work বা day-to-day progress-এ বেশি support দিতে পারেন।

MyStudies-এ topic approval নিন

MyStudies form complete করার আগে topic supervisor এবং advisorদের সঙ্গে লিখিতভাবে agree করা উচিত। Application-এ topic, supervisor, advisor এবং thesis language থাকে। একই সময় student-এর personal study plan ও degree structure check করা হয়।

School of Engineering guide official topic-এর ক্ষেত্রে company/brand names এবং unnecessary abbreviations avoid করতে বলে। Official thesis topic question আকারে না লেখাই rule। Minor refinement supervisor agreement-এ possible; supervisor change হলে নতুন approval দরকার।

Full execution-এর আগে research proposal লিখুন

Topic suitable হলে research proposal তৈরি করা উচিত। Proposal-এ background ও theoretical framework, research problem/question, main এবং interim objectives, methods, timetable এবং প্রয়োজন হলে budget থাকবে।

Kick-off meeting-এ supervisor/advisor proposal review করতে পারেন। Literature review, modelling, experiments, analysis এবং writing-এর জন্য interim milestones রাখা Mechanical Engineering project-এ বিশেষভাবে useful।

Supervisor এবং advisor proposal approve করার পর actual execution শুরু হয়।

Major অনুযায়ী research design বদলাবে

Shared administration মানে shared methodology নয়। Solid Mechanics numerical বা analytical modelling ব্যবহার করতে পারে; Mechatronics sensing, actuation, control বা experiments; Product Development design research ও prototyping; Marine/Arctic topics simulation বা testing; Production Engineering process/system analysis ব্যবহার করতে পারে।

Core requirement হলো research question, literature, data/evidence, method এবং conclusions aligned হওয়া। Aalto evaluation framework research scope, topic command, literature, methods, conclusions, contribution, structure, presentation এবং language দেখে।

Supervisor review-এর জন্য calendar-এ সময় রাখুন

First complete manuscript লিখে সঙ্গে সঙ্গে final submission করা উচিত নয়। School of Engineering guide অনুযায়ী supervisor manuscript thoroughly review করেন এবং corrections দেন।

এই review process সাধারণত সর্বোচ্চ four weeks নিতে পারে, এবং suggested corrections-এর জন্য আরও two to three weeks reserve করা উচিত। Advisor একই সময়ে company বা technical perspective থেকে comments দিতে পারেন।

তাই submission deadline থেকে পিছিয়ে realistic review window plan করুন। First full draft-কে final file ধরে calendar বানালে deadline miss হওয়ার ঝুঁকি থাকে।

Public Mechanical Engineering seminar compulsory

Mechanical Engineering-এর programme-specific rule স্পষ্ট: public seminar-এ thesis presentation M.Sc. (Tech.) graduation process-এর integrated এবং compulsory অংশ। Department regular seminars arrange করে। Exact schedule এবং detailed seminar instructions Aalto-user-only wiki-তে থাকে, তাই public guide exact dates invent করে না।

School of Engineering rules অনুযায়ী finished-thesis presentation approval application-এর final day-এর মধ্যে complete করতে হবে। তাই presentation graduation-এর আগে optional extra নয়।

Abstract-ই maturity essay

School of Engineering master’s thesis-এ thesis abstract maturity essay হিসেবে কাজ করে। Supervisor abstract thesis field-এর familiarity demonstrate করছে কি না check করেন। Language requirement student-এর prior educational background-এর ওপর depend করতে পারে।

Aalto-এর current AI guidance অনুযায়ী maturity test-এ language model ব্যবহার করা যাবে না। তাই assessed abstract/maturity component তৈরি করার সময় applicable AI restriction follow করতে হবে।

Turnitin drafting-এর সময় ব্যবহার করুন

Aalto thesis submission process-এ Turnitin mandatory। Final submission-এর আগে drafts-এ proactively ব্যবহার করা ভালো। Similarity report quotation, paraphrase এবং citation problem identify করতে সাহায্য করে।

কোনো similarity percentage নিজে plagiarism prove করে না। একইভাবে AI-detection output-ও conclusive misconduct proof নয় এবং references accurate কি না verify করে না। Final work-এর originality ও accuracy-এর responsibility student-এর।

Final PDF/A এবং Aaltodoc

School of Engineering theses electronically submit এবং archive করা হয়। Final approval workflow MyStudies দিয়ে চলে এবং thesis Aaltodoc-এ archive হয়। Final archival file PDF/A হতে হবে।

Deadline-এর আগে PDF/A conversion test করা ভালো। Final uploaded file-ই evaluated এবং archived official thesis version হয়।

Thesis public document

Aalto master’s thesis public document। Evaluation-এর জন্য submitted thesis-এর মধ্যে secret বা confidential information রাখা যাবে না। Company-sponsored thesis হলে commercial secrets background material-এর মধ্যে রাখতে হবে, evaluated thesis-এর মধ্যে নয়।

Aaltodoc thesis metadata এবং 1 January 2024 থেকে abstract openly publish করে। Full text online publish করতে author consent লাগে। কিন্তু full-text consent না দিলে thesis confidential হয়ে যায় না; thesis public document হিসেবেই থাকে।

Evaluation এবং grading

School of Engineering thesis grading scale 0–5:

• 0 fail
• 1 passable
• 2 satisfactory
• 3 good
• 4 very good
• 5 excellent

Evaluation research scope/goals, command of topic/literature, methods/conclusions, contribution/structure এবং presentation/language consider করে। Supervisor complete thesis evaluate করে written examiner statement ও proposed grade Degree Programme Committee-এ দেন। Committee formal approval ও grade decide করে।

Proposed grade 1, 5 বা fail হলে School of Engineering policy অনুযায়ী additional qualified academic examiner consultation লাগে। Submitted thesis normally four weeks-এর মধ্যে evaluate হওয়া উচিত। Grade decision-এর বিরুদ্ধে formal appeal route আছে।

June exception গুরুত্বপূর্ণ: 23 June 2027 graduation date, কিন্তু June-এ thesis বা maturity essay examination-এর জন্য submit করা যায় না। June graduation target করলে May timetable follow করতে হবে।

Practical workflow

1. Bachelor’s degree complete করুন এবং relevant major studies এগিয়ে নিন।
2. Second-year spring-এর আগেই topic search শুরু করুন।
3. Ready-made বা own topic suitable supervisor-এর সঙ্গে shape করুন।
4. Written thesis individual রাখুন; advisor structure agree করুন।
5. MyStudies-এ topic, supervisor, advisor ও language approval নিন।
6. Research proposal-এ problem, objectives, methods, milestones ও timetable লিখুন।
7. Project approximately 800 hours / six months scope-এর মধ্যে রাখুন।
8. Research-এর সঙ্গে writing parallel চালান।
9. Turnitin drafting-এর সময় ব্যবহার করুন।
10. Supervisor review-এর জন্য up to four weeks এবং corrections-এর জন্য additional time রাখুন।
11. Compulsory public Mechanical Engineering seminar complete করুন।
12. Abstract/maturity এবং applicable AI/language rules follow করুন।
13. Final thesis PDF/A validate করুন এবং confidential material remove করুন।
14. Live deadline recheck করে MyStudies-এ submit করুন।
15. Supervisor evaluation ও Degree Programme Committee decision complete হতে দিন।
