Aalto University Life Science Technologies Master’s Thesis Guide: Current Five Majors

Aalto University-এর Master’s Programme in Life Science Technologies-এর current 2026–2028 structure-এ পাঁচটি active major আছে: Bioinformatics and Digital Health, Biomedical Engineering, Biosensing and Bioelectronics, Complex Systems, এবং Human Neuroscience and Technology। এই পাঁচ major-এর thesis public routing একই SCI Master’s thesis MyCourses workspace-এ যায়।

এই guide শুধু এই current five-major SCI route-এর জন্য। Legacy Biosystems and Biomaterials Engineering (BBE) students-এর CHEM-style thesis process আলাদা এবং এই guide-এ merge করা হয়নি।

Common framework: 30 ECTS individual thesis, most SCI thesis-এর জন্য প্রায় six months full-time planning baseline, Aalto professor supervisor, প্রয়োজন হলে one/two advisor, MyStudies topic approval, seminar/equivalent presentation, maturity essay, public thesis এবং SCI Degree Programme Committee approval। Detailed operational instructions authenticated MyCourses-এ থাকে।

Current degree structure-এ thesis কোথায়

Current 2026–2028 Life Science Technologies degree মোট 120 ECTS:

• major studies: 62 ECTS;
• elective studies: 28 ECTS;
• Master’s thesis: 30 ECTS।

Thesis সাধারণত student’s major-এর সঙ্গে related হয়; special case-এ minor-এর সঙ্গে related topic হতে পারে। Five current majors-এর research tradition আলাদা হলেও thesis credit value একই 30 ECTS।

Aalto first year-এ compulsory/major studies এবং second year-এ elective studies ও Master’s thesis-এর উপর focus করার programme-level structure দেখায়। Current orientation guidance-ও thesis process second study year-এর শুরুতে শুরু করার recommendation দেয়।

30 ECTS thesis হলো research assignment

Current curriculum Master’s thesis-কে 30-credit research assignment হিসেবে describe করে। Topic সাধারণত student’s major-এর সঙ্গে related এবং thesis area-তে expert একজন professor-এর সঙ্গে agree করতে হয়।

Current framework-এ আরও আছে:

• seminar presentation বা equivalent presentation;
• thesis-related maturity essay;
• approved thesis-এর public-document status।

Public curriculum SCI students-এর জন্য separate extra thesis-seminar ECTS publish করে না। তাই এই guide কোনো invented seminar credit যোগ করে না।

Second study year-এর শুরু থেকেই planning করুন

SCI-specific current guidance students-কে second study year-এর beginning থেকে thesis process শুরু করার recommendation দেয়। Topic, professor, research group বা company খুঁজতে সময় লাগতে পারে, তাই এই early start practical।

একই guidance অনুযায়ী 30-credit thesis প্রায় six months full-time work। Employment, অন্য course, data collection বা অন্য কারণে full-time thesis করা না গেলে Aalto earlier start করতে বলে।

SCI আরও বলে six-month target exceed করলে grade প্রভাবিত হতে পারে। এর মানে every student-এর calendar exactly একই হবে না। বরং scope এবং schedule supervisor-এর সঙ্গে early agree করা জরুরি।

Major-এর সঙ্গে fit করা topic

Life Science Technologies-এর five current majors-এর research tradition আলাদা। Bioinformatics and Digital Health-এ biomedical/health data, probabilistic modelling, machine learning বা computational method development থাকতে পারে। Biomedical Engineering-এ biosignal, imaging, instrumentation, physiological measurement বা modelling থাকতে পারে। Biosensing and Bioelectronics-এ biomaterial interface, sensing system, electrochemical/bioelectrical measurement বা device work থাকতে পারে। Complex Systems-এ network, dynamical systems, computation বা data-driven modelling থাকতে পারে। Human Neuroscience and Technology-তে cognition, neuroimaging, neural signal, stimulation বা neurotechnology research থাকতে পারে।

এগুলো example, mandatory method নয়। Research question, available evidence, equipment/data access এবং supervisor guidance অনুযায়ী design ঠিক করতে হবে।

Supervisor এবং advisor

Current Life Science Technologies curriculum অনুযায়ী thesis supervisor হতে হবে Aalto University-এর professor। Topic thesis area-তে specialised professor-এর সঙ্গে agree করা হয়।

Thesis-এ one or two advisors থাকতে পারে। Current curriculum অনুযায়ী advisor সাধারণত thesis যে organisation-এর জন্য করা হচ্ছে সেখানকার expert হন, অন্তত Master’s degree থাকতে হয় এবং content/writing-এ field-specific support দেন।

External advisor practical domain knowledge, data access বা day-to-day support দিতে পারেন, কিন্তু thesis Aalto academic attainment হিসেবেই থাকে। শুরুতেই clarify করুন কে research plan দেখবেন, meeting frequency কী হবে, draft feedback কে দেবেন এবং company expectation কীভাবে academic requirement-এর সঙ্গে align হবে।

MyStudies এবং topic approval

Current public LifeTech/SCI guidance MyStudies দিয়ে thesis topic approval-এর কথা স্পষ্ট করে। Final operational submission details authenticated SCI MyCourses workspace-এ check করতে হবে; অন্য programme থেকে infer করা ঠিক নয়।

SCI graduation guidance-এর গুরুত্বপূর্ণ public rule হলো: final thesis evaluation-এর আগে thesis topic approved হতে হবে। Supervisor-এর সঙ্গে topic agree হওয়ার পর MyStudies দিয়ে topic approval application পাঠাতে হবে।

অর্থাৎ final upload-এর দিন প্রথম formal thesis step শুরু করা ঠিক নয়। Topic এবং supervision arrangement যথেষ্ট আগে settle করা প্রয়োজন।

Detailed SCI process MyCourses-এর ভিতরে

Aalto বারবার SCI students-কে authenticated SCI Master’s Thesis MyCourses workspace-এ detailed thesis instructions দেখতে বলে।

এই access boundary গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। Public source থেকে 30 ECTS, six-month baseline, topic approval, supervisor/advisor baseline, presentation, maturity essay, public-thesis rule এবং graduation timing verify করা যায়। কিন্তু সব internal SCI form, template, rubric, writing instruction বা process step public নয়।

তাই এই guide hidden SCI process অন্য school থেকে reconstruct করে না। Public source-এর বাইরে কোনো operational detail দরকার হলে current SCI MyCourses workspace এবং supervisor follow করতে হবে।

Six-month baseline-এর সঙ্গে dependency planning

Aalto most 30-credit SCI thesis-এর জন্য six months full-time work baseline দেয়। কিন্তু laboratory access, participant recruitment, data permission, company data, compute resources বা ethics/privacy arrangement calendar বদলাতে পারে। Employment বা other courses-এর কারণে full-time thesis সম্ভব না হলে earlier start করার পরামর্শ দেওয়া হয়েছে।

Calendar দীর্ঘ হলে 30 ECTS scope নিজে থেকে বড় করবেন না। নতুন dataset, experiment বা research question যোগ করার আগে supervisor-এর সঙ্গে scope recheck করুন।

Company বা external thesis

Current curriculum external organisation-linked advisor support recognize করে। LifeTech thesis company, hospital, research group, laboratory, public-sector organisation বা externally funded project-এর সঙ্গে linked হতে পারে।

External setting academic requirement বদলায় না। Thesis advanced studies-এর সঙ্গে related research assignment হিসেবেই থাকতে হবে।

External project শুরু করার আগে clarify করুন:

• problem 30 ECTS thesis-এর জন্য academically যথেষ্ট কি না;
• data/software/infrastructure access থাকবে কি না;
• public thesis-এ কী রাখা যাবে;
• Aalto supervisor এবং external advisor কে হবেন;
• IP, publication বা confidentiality issue timeline affect করবে কি না।

Final academic scope commissioning organisation নয়, Aalto supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agree করা উচিত।

Five majors share the route, কিন্তু methodology এক নয়

Shared SCI thesis route থাকলেও পাঁচ major-এর thesis methodology এক হবে এমন কোনো rule নেই। Computational, experimental, modelling, device-development, imaging, behavioural বা mixed design project-specific হতে পারে।

Public LifeTech pages one universal page count, citation style বা chapter sequence publish করে না। Project-specific writing/formatting authenticated SCI MyCourses, disciplinary conventions এবং supervisor-এর সঙ্গে confirm করুন। অন্য major-এর familiar template দেখে সেটিকে compulsory ধরে নেবেন না।

Universal page count বা chapter template public source-এ নেই

Current public Life Science Technologies/SCI sources সব SCI major-এর জন্য একটি universal page count, word count, citation style বা compulsory chapter template publish করে না।

এটি programme breadth-এর সঙ্গে consistent। Theoretical CS thesis, empirical HCI study এবং applied ML project-এর structure naturally আলাদা হতে পারে। Project-specific writing/formatting rule-এর জন্য SCI MyCourses workspace, major convention এবং supervisor instruction follow করুন।

Seminar presentation

Current curriculum Master’s thesis work-এর অংশ হিসেবে seminar presentation বা equivalent presentation require করে। Public page every SCI major-এর জন্য এক universal presentation format দেয় না। তাই exact arrangement SCI workspace এবং supervisor-এর কাছ থেকে verify করতে হবে।

Presentation thesis completion schedule-এর অংশ, optional afterthought নয়।

Maturity essay এবং AI boundary

Current Life Science Technologies curriculum thesis-related maturity essay require করে।

Aalto-এর current AI guidance learning support-এ AI permit করতে পারে যদি restriction না থাকে, কিন্তু student submitted work-এর জন্য responsible থাকে। গুরুত্বপূর্ণ hard boundary হলো: maturity exam-এ AI prohibited।

Thesis public document

Current curriculum স্পষ্টভাবে বলে Master’s thesis public document এবং concealed করা যাবে না।

Company বা security-related project-এর ক্ষেত্রে এটি খুব গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। NDA বা commercial relationship automatically final thesis secret করে দেয় না। Confidential data, proprietary information বা sensitive vulnerability থাকলে শুরুতেই supervisor এবং external partner-এর সঙ্গে public-document requirement নিয়ে আলোচনা করতে হবে। Public report-এ যা legally রাখা যাবে না, তা applicable Aalto/project rule অনুযায়ী report-এর বাইরে রাখতে হবে।

Final submission এবং graduation planning

SCI guidance অনুযায়ী thesis submit, graduation request এবং official graduation date-এ student-কে attending হিসেবে registered থাকতে হবে।

Master’s thesis ছাড়া degree-এর অন্য studies graduation request-এর আগে complete হওয়া উচিত। Required study modules graduation-request deadline-এর অন্তত three weeks আগে approved রাখা recommend করা হয়েছে।

Primary HOPS in Sisu current এবং approved হতে হবে, কারণ degree certificate study plan এবং graduation request-এর ভিত্তিতে generate হয়।

SCI final thesis evaluation এবং graduation একই deadline-এ apply করতে দেয়। এমন করলে supervisor-কে আগে inform করতে হবে এবং final thesis পড়া ও statement তৈরির জন্য প্রায় four weeks সময় রাখতে হবে। Final Master’s thesis Degree Programme Committee approve করে।

Current 2027 SCI thesis-compatible deadlines

Current published SCI schedule অনুযায়ী thesis approval support করে এমন 2027 deadlines:

• 17 February 2027 → committee 8–11 March;
• 21 April 2027 → committee 17–20 May;
• 26 May 2027 → committee 14–17 June;
• 30 July 2027 → committee 23–26 August;
• 22 September 2027 → committee 11–14 October;
• 17 November 2027 → committee 7–9 December;
• 31 December 2027 → committee 2028-এ।

SCI table-এর starred dates graduation-only, যদি thesis already approved এবং Sisu-তে registered থাকে। এগুলো ordinary thesis-approval deadline নয়। Live SCI graduation page এবং SCI MyCourses workspace submission-এর আগে আবার check করুন।

Practical roadmap

Second study year-এর আগে

Major study enough complete করুন যাতে research direction বোঝা যায়। Professor, research group, company এবং previous topic explore করুন। Difficult data access বা specialised environment লাগলে early search করুন।

Second study year-এর শুরু

Topic narrow করুন এবং suitable Aalto professor identify করুন। External project হলে advisor এবং public/confidential boundary clarify করুন। MyStudies thesis information update করুন এবং SCI workspace-এর formal-start instruction follow করুন।

Early project

Research question, scope, evidence এবং method define করুন। Six-month full-time plan বা justified alternative schedule supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agree করুন। Scope 30 ECTS-এর মধ্যে রাখুন।

Main research/writing

Appropriate theoretical, computational, empirical, design বা software work করুন। Decision এবং limitation document করুন। Research শেষ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত writing postpone করবেন না।

Final stage

Topic approval confirm করুন। Seminar/equivalent presentation এবং maturity essay current SCI rule অনুযায়ী complete করুন। Graduation target থাকলে supervisor-কে final reading এবং statement-এর জন্য four-week allowance দিন।

Submission

Current Aalto process দিয়ে final thesis submit করুন, HOPS এবং remaining studies ready রাখুন এবং current SCI deadline অনুযায়ী graduation apply করুন।

Current LifeTech five-major public framework হলো: 30 ECTS thesis, normally six months full-time, Aalto professor supervisor, qualified advisor support, MyStudies topic approval, seminar/equivalent presentation, maturity essay, public-document status এবং SCI committee approval।
