Aalto University Geoinformatics Master’s Thesis Guide: 2026–2028 বাংলা সংস্করণ

Aalto University-এর Master’s Programme in Geoinformatics School of Engineering-এর অধীনে একটি 120 ECTS Master of Science (Technology) programme। Current 2026–2028 curriculum অনুযায়ী degree structure হলো 60 ECTS major studies + 30 ECTS Master’s thesis + 30 ECTS elective studies। Current thesis code BE.thes, আর maturity test ENG.matr, 0 ECTS।

Geoinformatics-এর মধ্যে geodesy, photogrammetry, laser scanning, Earth observation/remote sensing, spatial data science, GIS, cartography এবং geospatial visualisation থাকে। এই breadth-এর কারণে সব thesis-এর জন্য একটি mandatory method নেই। Topic অনুযায়ী computational, measurement-based, modelling, empirical বা theoretical approach ব্যবহার হতে পারে।

এই guide 29 August 2026 তারিখে current public Aalto sources যাচাই করে তৈরি। School of Engineering-এর detailed Master’s Thesis Guide authenticated MyCourses-এর ভেতরে থাকে। তাই এখানে hidden ENG forms, rubric, formatting rules বা অন্য school-এর procedures অনুমান করে যোগ করা হয়নি।

Current degree এবং thesis structure

2026–2028 structure:

• Major studies: 60 ECTS
• Master’s thesis: 30 ECTS, BE.thes
• Elective studies: 30 ECTS
• Maturity test: 0 ECTS, ENG.matr

Recommended timetable অনুযায়ী 60 ECTS major studies first academic year-এ complete করার কথা। Second year-এ electives থাকে, আর second-year spring thesis-এর জন্য devote করার recommendation আছে। Topic অনেক আগে খোঁজা শুরু করতে বলা হয়।

30-credit thesis entity-এর মধ্যে presentation এবং maturity test অন্তর্ভুক্ত। Current curriculum আলাদা thesis-seminar ECTS দেখায় না, তাই extra seminar credit invent করা যাবে না।

Applied না theoretical research: current source wording difference

Aalto-এর applicant-facing Geoinformatics page বলে thesis applied research or theoretical research হতে পারে। Current student thesis page thesis-কে applied research বলে।

দুই page-ই মূল academic purpose-এ একমত: existing scientific knowledge এবং responsible conduct of research অনুসরণ করে field-relevant problem solve করতে হবে।

এই wording difference লুকিয়ে না রেখে guide-এ explicit রাখা হয়েছে। Actual project design supervisor এবং current ENG instructions-এর সঙ্গে ঠিক করতে হবে। Highly theoretical geodesy বা spatial-methods thesis শুধু এক public page applied শব্দ ব্যবহার করেছে বলে automatically invalid নয়।

Topic নির্বাচন

Thesis topic programme-এর advanced studies-এর সঙ্গে related হতে হবে এবং topic-এ specialised supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agree করতে হবে। Programme professors current research-এর সঙ্গে linked topic দিতে পারেন, আবার student নিজের topic propose করতে পারে।

সম্ভাব্য thesis context:

• geodesy এবং positioning;
• photogrammetry;
• laser scanning এবং point-cloud processing;
• Earth observation/remote sensing;
• spatial data science এবং geospatial machine learning;
• GIS ও spatial analysis;
• 3D city modelling;
• cartography এবং geovisualisation;
• mobility, urban ও environmental applications;
• spatial data quality, uncertainty এবং reliability।

Applicant page crop identification with Sentinel-2, building information + agent-based people-flow simulation, 3D city modelling এবং railway survey quality control-এর মতো recent thesis examples দেয়। এগুলো examples, mandatory topic নয়।

Method নির্বাচন

Current public Aalto material কোনো single compulsory Geoinformatics method দেয় না। Method research question এবং data-এর সঙ্গে match করতে হবে।

Remote-sensing project image preprocessing, classification এবং validation ব্যবহার করতে পারে। Laser-scanning thesis point-cloud registration বা accuracy assessment করতে পারে। GIS thesis spatial statistics, network analysis বা geocomputation ব্যবহার করতে পারে। Geodesy thesis measurement, estimation এবং uncertainty নিয়ে কাজ করতে পারে।

একটি practical sequence:

1. geospatial phenomenon বা technical problem define করুন;
2. current research থেকে existing knowledge বুঝুন;
3. data, measurement বা model requirement নির্ধারণ করুন;
4. question-এর জন্য appropriate method নির্বাচন করুন;
5. accuracy, uncertainty, validation ও limitation define করুন;
6. 30 ECTS scope realistic রাখুন;
7. workflow এমনভাবে document করুন যাতে informed reader result কীভাবে হয়েছে বুঝতে পারে।

বেশি algorithm ব্যবহার করাই quality নয়। Research question থেকে evidence, analysis এবং conclusion পর্যন্ত coherent chain দরকার।

Supervisor এবং advisor eligibility

Current School of Engineering framework অনুযায়ী supervisor হতে পারেন:

• Professor of any rank;
• Adjunct Professor;
• Professor of Practice;
• Senior University Lecturer;
• Principal University Lecturer।

Advisor-এর অন্তত Master’s degree থাকতে হবে।

Supervisor academic direction এবং programme fit দেখবেন। Advisor technical, industry বা project-specific guidance দিতে পারেন। External project হলে academic supervisor এবং external advisor-এর role শুরুতেই পরিষ্কার করুন।

MyStudies এবং authenticated ENG guide

Aalto-এর technology schools-এ MyStudies formal thesis-management platform হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। Thesis শুরু করার সময় basic information enter করে supervisor approval apply করা হয়। Supervisor topic এবং advisors approve করেন। Final thesis evaluation, approval এবং archiving-এর জন্য MyStudies-এ submit করা হয়।

Public Geoinformatics thesis page authenticated ENG Master’s Thesis Guide in MyCourses-এ যেতে বলে। ENG Master’s students periodical enrolment পায়; access না থাকলে Learning Services-এর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করতে বলা হয়।

এই boundary-এর কারণে public guide ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে invent করে না:

• universal ENG word/page count;
• mandatory citation style;
• fixed chapter structure;
• fixed number of supervisor meetings;
• CHEM-এর 800-hour/five-month workload rule;
• hidden ENG grading rubric;
• separate thesis-seminar ECTS;

Geoinformatics thesis presentation

Current thesis page programme-specific presentation process প্রকাশ করে।

Presentation-এর আগে MyCourses thesis presentation event-এ register করতে হয়। Geoinformatics thesis MyCourses course-এ enrolled না থাকলে programme self-enrolment route দেয়।

Presentation সাধারণত Monday হয় এবং previous Wednesday-এর মধ্যে registration করতে বলা হয়। Registration-এর সময় correct day-এর নিচে student name, thesis title এবং supervisor দিতে হয়।

Current format:

• প্রায় 15 minutes presentation;
• প্রায় 5 minutes discussion;
• প্রায় 10–15 PowerPoint slides।

Presentation-এ briefly cover করতে হবে:

• কী study করা হয়েছে, অর্থাৎ research question;
• কীভাবে করা হয়েছে, অর্থাৎ data এবং methods;
• main results;
• student কী শিখেছে।

Evaluation-এর জন্য thesis দেওয়ার আগে supervisor-এর সঙ্গে presentation date well in advance agree করতে হবে।

Compelling reason থাকলে video presentation possible, কিন্তু supervisor-এর সঙ্গে separately agree করতে হবে। এটি normal self-selected alternative নয়।

AI use এবং programme-specific reporting

Geoinformatics thesis page-এর current programme-specific rule হলো: সব student-এর AI use report করা expected। Detailed reporting instructions এবং form MyCourses-এ থাকে।

Aalto-এর university-wide AI guidance, August 2026 update অনুযায়ী, restriction না থাকলে AI learning support হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যেতে পারে। কিন্তু submitted content-এর responsibility student-এর। AI-generated text direct বা unmodified form-এ নিজের লেখা হিসেবে দেওয়া যাবে না।

Geoinformatics thesis-এ AI student-এর responsibility replace করতে পারে না, বিশেষ করে:

• source verification;
• coding/algorithmic decisions;
• spatial-data quality checks;
• model assumptions;
• validation;
• interpretation;
• reproducibility;
• conclusions।

Confidential, personal, unpublished বা security-sensitive geospatial information inappropriate AI service-এ দেওয়া যাবে না।

Maturity test এবং AI prohibition

Current curriculum ENG.matr, 0 ECTS confirm করে এবং thesis page maturity test thesis entity-এর অংশ বলে। কিন্তু public Geoinformatics page exact maturity format যথেষ্ট detail-এ define করে না।

তাই অন্য programme-এর abstract-as-maturity model automatically import করা যাবে না। Exact procedure-এর জন্য authenticated ENG instructions follow করতে হবে।

একটি current public rule পরিষ্কার: Aalto maturity examination-এ AI নিষিদ্ধ করে। যে maturity format current ENG process-এ apply করে, সেটি prohibited AI assistance ছাড়া complete করতে হবে।

Data quality, reproducibility এবং responsible research

Geoinformatics thesis বড়, complex বা multi-source geospatial dataset ব্যবহার করতে পারে। তাই citation-এর পাশাপাশি data provenance, transformation, coordinate reference system, uncertainty, accuracy, reproducibility এবং access rights গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।

Computational thesis-এ code version, libraries, parameters এবং preprocessing decisions রাখুন। Measurement thesis-এ instruments, calibration এবং error sources document করুন। Remote-sensing thesis-এ imagery product, date, preprocessing এবং validation data record করুন। Spatial analysis-এ scale, spatial units এবং bias পরিষ্কার করুন।

সুন্দর map বা advanced model একাই academic thesis নয়। Method কেন appropriate এবং result থেকে কী conclusion legitimately নেওয়া যায় তা explain করতে হবে।

External/company/public-sector thesis

Geoinformatics companies, municipalities, transport, environmental monitoring, infrastructure, security এবং public administration-এর সঙ্গে কাজ করতে পারে। External topic academic requirement বদলায় না।

শুরুতেই পরিষ্কার করুন:

• কোন data public thesis-এ ব্যবহার করা যাবে;
• data ownership/licence কী;
• location data privacy/security issue তৈরি করে কি না;
• কী archive/publish করা যাবে;
• academic supervisor কে;
• external advisor আছে কি না;
• internal technical task থেকে thesis research question কীভাবে আলাদা।

শেষ submission-এর সময় এসে key dataset publicভাবে describe করা যাবে না বুঝতে পারা খুব risky।

Current public evaluation deadlines

29 August 2026 verification অনুযায়ী remaining public Geoinformatics thesis-evaluation deadlines:

Year-end deadline ব্যবহার করলে holiday period বিবেচনা করে Christmas-এর অনেক আগে supervisor-এর সঙ্গে schedule agree করতে Aalto সতর্ক করে।

Current public programme page complete 2027 Geoinformatics evaluation calendar এখনো publish করেনি। 2026 schedule extrapolate না করে submission-এর আগে live thesis page recheck করুন।

Practical planning model

First year

• major studies plan অনুযায়ী complete করুন;
• geospatial acquisition, analysis এবং visualisation skill develop করুন;
• thesis interest-এর সঙ্গে relevant research group/subfield identify করুন;

Thesis spring-এর আগে

Main research phase

• reproducible data/code practice রাখুন;

Final phase

• analysis এবং conclusion complete করুন;

যেগুলো ধরে নেওয়া যাবে না

Current Aalto Geoinformatics programme-এর জন্য ধরে নেবেন না যে:

• supervisor discussion ছাড়া thesis অবশ্যই purely applied বা purely theoretical;
• এক GIS/remote-sensing/statistical method সবার জন্য mandatory;
• universal page/word count আছে;
• অন্য programme-এর maturity format automatically apply করে;
• document complete হলেই presentation skip করা যায়;
• compelling reason/supervisor agreement ছাড়া video presentation নেওয়া যায়;
• AI reporting optional;
• maturity exam-এ AI ব্যবহার করা যায়;
• CHEM workload বা অন্য school-এর grading process ENG-এ apply করে;
• 2026 committee dates দেখে 2027 infer করা যায়।

Final checklist

Submit করার আগে confirm করুন:

• correct 2026–2028 curriculum follow করছেন;
• BE.thes 30 ECTS এবং ENG.matr 0 ECTS plan-এ আছে;
• topic advanced studies-এর সঙ্গে fit করে;
• supervisor/advisor current ENG eligibility পূরণ করেন;
