Aalto University Geoengineering Master’s Thesis Guide: 2026–2028 বাংলা সংস্করণ

Aalto University-এর Master’s Programme in Geoengineering School of Engineering-এর অধীনে একটি 120 ECTS Master of Science (Technology) programme। Current 2026–2028 curriculum অনুযায়ী degree structure হলো 60 ECTS major studies + 30 ECTS Master’s thesis + 30 ECTS elective studies। Thesis code CE.thes, আর maturity test ENG.matr, 0 ECTS।

Geoengineering-এর মধ্যে geotechnics, rock engineering and mining, road/highway engineering, soil ও rock behaviour, field investigation, laboratory experiment এবং numerical modelling-এর মতো বিষয় থাকে। কিন্তু এগুলোর কোনো একটি method সব thesis-এর জন্য বাধ্যতামূলক নয়। Research question, available evidence, technical context এবং supervisor guidance অনুযায়ী method নির্বাচন করতে হবে।

এই guide 29 August 2026 তারিখে current public Aalto sources যাচাই করে তৈরি। School of Engineering-এর detailed Master’s Thesis Guide authenticated MyCourses-এর ভেতরে থাকে। তাই এখানে login-only ENG forms, hidden rubric, internal administrative sequence বা অন্য school-এর নিয়ম অনুমান করে যোগ করা হয়নি।

Current degree এবং thesis structure

2026–2028 curriculum-এর structure:

• Major studies: 60 ECTS
• Master’s thesis: 30 ECTS, CE.thes
• Elective studies: 30 ECTS
• Maturity test: 0 ECTS, ENG.matr

Aalto thesis project-এর recommended timing হিসেবে second study year-এর spring semester উল্লেখ করে এবং topic খোঁজা এর অনেক আগে শুরু করতে বলে।

Public Geoengineering thesis page thesis-কে 30-credit applied-research entity হিসেবে বর্ণনা করে। এর মধ্যে thesis, thesis presentation এবং maturity test অন্তর্ভুক্ত। মূল লক্ষ্য হলো existing scientific knowledge এবং responsible conduct of research অনুসরণ করে field-relevant problem সমাধান করা।

অর্থাৎ thesis শুধু একটি বড় engineering report নয়। Company, public authority, infrastructure project বা research group থেকে topic এলেও একটি পরিষ্কার research/development problem, appropriate evidence, defensible method, analysis এবং evidence-based conclusion প্রয়োজন।

Topic নির্বাচন

Thesis topic advanced studies-এর সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত হতে হবে এবং topic area-তে specialised supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agree করতে হবে। Programme professors current research-এর সঙ্গে যুক্ত thesis topic দিতে পারেন। Student নিজের topic-ও suitable supervisor-এর কাছে propose করতে পারে।

সম্ভাব্য context হতে পারে:

• soil behaviour ও geotechnical design;
• foundation engineering ও ground improvement;
• rock mechanics ও underground construction;
• mining ও economic geology;
• road materials, pavement এবং rehabilitation;
• environmental geotechnics;
• numerical modelling ও engineering computation;
• field investigation এবং monitoring;
• laboratory testing;
• infrastructure maintenance ও life-cycle questions।

এগুলো mandatory thesis categories নয়। Numerical geomechanics thesis modelling ও sensitivity analysis ব্যবহার করতে পারে, road-material thesis experiment ব্যবহার করতে পারে, field-based geotechnical thesis measurement ও site investigation-এর ওপর নির্ভর করতে পারে। Method research problem-এর সঙ্গে fit করতে হবে।

Supervisor এবং advisor eligibility

Current School of Engineering rules অনুযায়ী thesis supervisor হতে পারেন:

• Professor of any rank;
• Adjunct Professor;
• Professor of Practice;
• Senior University Lecturer;
• Principal University Lecturer।

Thesis advisor-এর অন্তত Master’s degree থাকতে হবে।

Supervisor academic direction, scope এবং programme fit দেখবেন। Advisor technical, industrial বা project-specific expertise দিতে পারেন। External/company thesis হলে academic supervision এবং day-to-day technical advice কার দায়িত্ব তা শুরুতেই পরিষ্কার করা ভালো।

Geoengineering-এর recommended timeline

Programme second study year-এর জন্য একটি recommended model schedule প্রকাশ করে। এটি প্রত্যেক student-এর জন্য rigid calendar নয়, তবে planning baseline হিসেবে খুব কার্যকর।

August

Current thesis instructions পড়ুন এবং advertised thesis topics দেখুন।

September–October

Advertised topic-এর জন্য supervisor-এর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করুন অথবা নিজের topic propose করুন।

November

Programme-এর model schedule এই সময় supervisor topic selection/announcement রাখে। একই advertised topic-এর জন্য একাধিক student আগ্রহী হলে relevant courses-এর gradesসহ study success বিবেচিত হতে পারে।

December

Supervisor এবং thesis advisor-এর সঙ্গে kick-off meeting করুন।

December–January

Current ENG/MyStudies process অনুযায়ী topic officially apply করুন এবং deadlines দেখুন।

January–May

Main research এবং thesis writing করুন।

May–June

Thesis finalise করুন, required presentation দিন এবং approval-এর জন্য apply করুন।

Common schedule follow করা সম্ভব না হলে programme একটি individual thesis-process timetable তৈরি করে deviation explain করতে এবং second Master’s year-এর end of year-এর মধ্যে Programme Director-কে plan দিতে বলে।

Field season, laboratory access, construction site, company data বা computational workload-এর মতো constraints থাকলে সেগুলো খুব আগে timeline-এ আনুন।

GeoCorner presentation

Geoengineering-এর একটি স্পষ্ট programme-specific requirement আছে। Master’s thesis presentation GeoCorner-এ হয় এবং thesis approval-এর জন্য দেওয়ার আগে presentation সম্পন্ন করতে হবে।

Current format:

• 15 minutes presentation;
• 5 minutes discussion।

Presentation slot নেওয়ার আগে supervisor-এর permission নিন এবং date agree করুন। Programme প্রায় দুই সপ্তাহ আগে date ঠিক করার পরামর্শ দেয়। এরপর live GeoCorner registration instructions follow করতে হবে।

এই presentation submission-এর পরে optional event নয়। Final thesis schedule-এর মধ্যে supervisor review, correction, GeoCorner এবং approval deadline একসঙ্গে plan করুন।

Maturity essay

Current Geoengineering page অনুযায়ী Master’s thesis abstract-ই maturity essay হিসেবে কাজ করে।

Maturity test 0 ECTS, কিন্তু degree requirement হিসেবে এটি formal component। Language requirement student-এর language-of-education background অনুযায়ী আলাদা হতে পারে, তাই current ENG এবং Aalto language instructions অনুসরণ করতে হবে।

Aalto-এর current AI rule খুব পরিষ্কার: maturity examination-এ AI ব্যবহার নিষিদ্ধ। যেহেতু Geoengineering-এ thesis abstract maturity essay হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়, assessed maturity component AI ছাড়া independently complete করতে হবে।

Thesis-এর অন্য অংশে AI

Aalto learning support-এর জন্য AI allow করতে পারে যদি teacher বা assessment context restrict না করে। Submitted content-এর accuracy, originality এবং academic integrity-এর দায়িত্ব student-এর। AI-generated text সরাসরি নিজের লেখা হিসেবে দেওয়া যাবে না।

Geoengineering thesis-এ AI engineering judgement, source verification, calculation, modelling decision, field/lab data interpretation বা conclusion-এর দায়িত্ব replace করতে পারে না। Permitted brainstorming, language support বা coding assistance ব্যবহার করলে live Aalto এবং supervisor guidance অনুসরণ করুন।

Confidential company, personal বা restricted infrastructure information অননুমোদিত AI service-এ দেবেন না।

MyStudies এবং authenticated ENG guide

Aalto MyStudies-কে formal Master’s thesis-management system-এর অংশ হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে। Thesis record-এ basic information এবং supervisor/topic/advisor approval workflow থাকে; final evaluation এবং archiving-ও এই system-এর সঙ্গে যুক্ত।

Geoengineering graduation page confirm করে যে completed thesis approval/evaluation-এর জন্য MyStudies-এ submit করা হয়। Graduation request Sisu-তে করা হয়। Applicable conditions পূরণ হলে thesis approval/evaluation এবং graduation request একই সময়ে করা সম্ভব।

কিন্তু detailed School of Engineering process-এর controlling source হলো authenticated ENG Master’s Thesis Guide in MyCourses। Public page সব internal details প্রকাশ করে না।

তাই এই guide ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে invent করে না:

• universal ENG word/page count;
• mandatory citation style;
• fixed chapter template;
• fixed number of supervisor meetings;
• CHEM-এর 800-hour/five-month workload rule;
• hidden ENG grading rubric;
• current curriculum-এ না থাকা separate thesis seminar ECTS;
• Aalto এখনো programme page-এ প্রকাশ না করা complete 2027 committee calendar।

এসবের জন্য current MyCourses ENG guide এবং supervisor follow করতে হবে।

Research problem এবং method planning

Aalto thesis-কে existing scientific knowledge-এর ওপর ভিত্তি করে applied research হিসেবে দেখে। তাই একটি ভালো Geoengineering thesis technical task-এর চেয়ে বেশি কিছু। Investigable problem এবং appropriate evidence দরকার।

একটি practical sequence:

1. physical, design, operational বা scientific problem define করুন;
2. research, standards এবং reliable technical sources থেকে existing knowledge বুঝুন;
3. প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে কী evidence লাগবে ঠিক করুন;
4. field investigation, lab testing, modelling, simulation, data analysis বা justified combination নির্বাচন করুন;
5. assumptions, boundary conditions এবং limitations define করুন;
6. relevant হলে validation/comparison plan করুন;
7. 30 ECTS scope-এর মধ্যে project realistic রাখুন।

Computational thesis হলে model assumptions, input data, calibration এবং sensitivity document করা ভালো। Experimental thesis হলে materials, procedures এবং uncertainty পরিষ্কার করুন। Field study হলে data provenance এবং site conditions স্পষ্ট রাখুন। Conclusion সবসময় actual evidence-এর সঙ্গে traceable হওয়া উচিত।

Literature এবং responsible research

Literature review শুধু background facts-এর collection হওয়া উচিত নয়। Existing knowledge, technical/scientific gap এবং selected research design কেন appropriate তা establish করতে হবে।

Geoengineering thesis peer-reviewed research, standards, official specifications, geological/geospatial data, laboratory records, field measurements এবং project documentation ব্যবহার করতে পারে। প্রতিটি source type-এর role এবং authority পরিষ্কার রাখুন।

Company confidentiality, restricted site data, personal data বা sensitive infrastructure information থাকলে শুরুতেই data handling এবং publication plan ঠিক করুন। শেষে গিয়ে public thesis-এর মধ্যে sensitive content গোপন করা যাবে ধরে নেবেন না।

Thesis-writing support

Programme LC-1322 Thesis Writing for Engineers (MSc), 3 ECTS strongly recommends। Thesis writing শুরু করার সময় এটি useful হতে পারে।

এটি CE.thes-এর ভেতরে hidden extra credit নয়। Academic engineering writing support দরকার হলে current course availability এবং supervisor guidance দেখে ব্যবহার করা যায়।

Current public thesis-evaluation deadlines

29 August 2026 verification অনুযায়ী programme thesis page-এর remaining published 2026 evaluation deadlines:

31 December deadline ব্যবহার করলে Christmas holiday season-এর কারণে supervisor-এর সঙ্গে অনেক আগে schedule agree করতে Aalto সতর্ক করে।

Graduation page-এ কিছু graduation-only dates আছে যেখানে thesis এবং maturity test আগে থেকেই approved ও registered থাকতে হবে। এগুলো thesis-evaluation deadline নয়।

Current Geoengineering thesis page এখনো complete programme-specific 2027 committee schedule প্রকাশ করেনি। 2026 dates extrapolate না করে final submission-এর আগে live thesis/graduation page recheck করুন।

Graduation checks

Graduation-এর জন্য Sisu study plan up to date, reviewed এবং approved থাকতে হবে। Student-কে current semester-এ attending হিসেবে enrolled থাকতে হবে।

Final sequence হিসেবে:

• thesis research এবং writing complete করুন;
• GeoCorner presentation complete করুন;
• maturity requirement complete করুন;
• current ENG/MyCourses process অনুযায়ী MyStudies-এ approval/evaluation submit করুন;
• Sisu plan এবং registered studies check করুন;
• applicable deadline-এ graduation request দিন।

Thesis evaluation request এবং graduation request একই সময়ে করা সম্ভব হলেও presentation, maturity এবং programme requirements বাদ যায় না।

Practical Geoengineering plan

Second-year spring-এর আগে

• subfield এবং research problem identify করুন;
• advertised topic দেখুন;
• প্রয়োজনে self-proposed topic discuss করুন;
• suitable supervisor identify করুন;
• field/lab/software/company access constraints check করুন;
• current authenticated ENG Master’s Thesis Guide পড়ুন।

Thesis শুরু করার সময়

• supervisor-এর সঙ্গে academic scope agree করুন;
• advisor এবং roles পরিষ্কার করুন;
• MyStudies thesis information create/update করুন;
• realistic milestone timeline ঠিক করুন;
• field, laboratory বা computational work আগে plan করুন;
• প্রয়োজন হলে LC-1322 consider করুন।

Main research phase

• research question, literature, method এবং evidence aligned রাখুন;

যেগুলো ধরে নেওয়া যাবে না

Current Aalto Geoengineering programme-এর ক্ষেত্রে ধরে নেবেন না যে:

• universal word/page count আছে;
• একটি statistical, laboratory বা numerical method সবার জন্য mandatory;
• CHEM workload rule ENG-এ automatically apply করে;
• GeoCorner presentation thesis approval-এর পরে করা যাবে;
• maturity test-এ AI ব্যবহার করা যায়;
• অন্য Aalto school-এর process authenticated ENG gap পূরণ করতে পারে;
• graduation-only date মানেই thesis-evaluation date;
• 2026 schedule দেখে 2027 committee dates অনুমান করা যাবে।

Final checklist

Submit করার আগে confirm করুন:
