Aalto University Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Master’s Thesis Guide: 2026–2028 Curriculum-এর বাংলা সংস্করণ

Aalto University-এর Master’s Programme in Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering হলো School of Chemical Engineering পরিচালিত 120 ECTS, দুই-year Master of Science (Technology) programme। Current 2026–2028 curriculum follow করা students-এর degree structure-এ 95 ECTS major studies এবং 25 ECTS elective studies আছে, এবং 30 ECTS Master’s thesis major studies-এর মধ্যেই included।

Programme-এ দুইটি major আছে: Chemical and Process Engineering এবং Sustainable Metallurgical Engineering। দুই major-এর research topic, laboratory environment এবং industrial context আলাদা হতে পারে, কিন্তু current Aalto Student Guide একই School of Chemical Engineering thesis process apply করে। এই process যথেষ্ট detailed: supervisor খোঁজা, topic approval, research proposal, one or two advisors, project scheduling, final presentation, MyStudies submission, PDF/A archive এবং formal evaluation সবই current guidance-এ আছে।

এই guide 26 August 2026-এ verified current 2026–2028 curriculum এবং CHEM thesis instructions-এর উপর ভিত্তি করে তৈরি। School of Business, School of Engineering, ARTS অথবা অন্য programme-এর rule এখানে import করা হয়নি।

Degree structure এবং thesis কোথায় থাকে

Current curriculum মোট 120 ECTS:

• 95 ECTS major studies, যার মধ্যে 30 ECTS Master’s thesis included;
• 25 ECTS elective studies।

Chemical and Process Engineering major reaction engineering, separation process, process modelling, process control, plant/process design এবং chemical-engineering systems-এর মতো area cover করে। Sustainable Metallurgical Engineering hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, minerals engineering, recycling, metallurgical thermodynamics এবং circular processing-এর মতো area cover করে।

দুই major-এর current recommended timetable-এই Master’s thesis second study year-এর spring-এ রাখা হয়েছে। এর অর্থ topic thinking তখনই শুরু করতে হবে এমন নয়। Suitable professor, research group, company এবং possible research question আগেই explore করা practical।

30 ECTS thesis শুধু report নয়, একটি project

School of Chemical Engineering Master’s thesis-কে 30 ECTS project হিসেবে describe করে। এই project-এর মধ্যে thesis report, maturity test এবং project-related seminar অথবা presentation থাকে।

এখানে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ boundary আছে। Current 2026–2028 curriculum 30 ECTS Master’s thesis list করে, কিন্তু আলাদা additional thesis-seminar ECTS publish করে না। তাই seminar/presentation requirement-কে আলাদা invented credit হিসেবে দেখানো ঠিক হবে না।

Aalto-এর ভাষায় thesis project-এর purpose হলো student’s field এবং advanced studies-এর সঙ্গে related একটি problem solve করা। তাই thesis শুধু technically interesting কাজ হলেই যথেষ্ট নয়। Topic-টি major-এর সঙ্গে academically suitable হতে হবে এবং research problem, method, evidence, analysis ও conclusion develop করার মতো scope থাকতে হবে।

Major-এর সঙ্গে fit করে এমন topic নির্বাচন

Formal process-এর প্রথম step হলো supervising professor খুঁজে topic-এর suitability নিয়ে agreement করা। Research group, company project এবং previous thesis থেকে idea পাওয়া যায়, কিন্তু interesting idea automatically approved thesis topic নয়।

Chemical and Process Engineering-এর project process modelling, reaction engineering, separation, process control, plant design, energy efficiency অথবা similar chemical-process context-এ হতে পারে। Sustainable Metallurgical Engineering-এর project hydrometallurgy, pyrometallurgy, mineral processing, recycling, corrosion, thermodynamics অথবা circular materials system-এর context-এ হতে পারে।

এগুলো possible disciplinary context, mandatory method নয়। Current Aalto guidance সব student-এর জন্য একটি fixed experimental design require করে না। কোনো thesis experimental হতে পারে, কোনোটি computational বা modelling-based হতে পারে, আবার কোনোটি design-oriented বা mixed approach হতে পারে। Research problem অনুযায়ী method নির্ধারণ করে supervisor এবং advisor(s)-এর সঙ্গে agree করতে হবে।

Thesis starting information submit করার আগে

Current CHEM instructions অনুযায়ী formal start process-এর আগে student-এর:

• attending student হিসেবে enrolled থাকা;
• BSc degree approved থাকা;
• Master’s degree-এর personal study plan approved থাকা;
• admission-এর সময় assigned complementary studies থাকলে সেগুলো complete করা;

উচিত।

প্রথমে proposed supervisor-এর সঙ্গে topic agree করতে হবে। এরপর MyStudies Thesis tab-এ starting information submit করা হয়। সেখানে topic, thesis language, supervisor এবং advisor(s)-এর information থাকে।

Supervisor topic এবং language approve করেন এবং one or two thesis advisors appoint করেন। Programme Director supervisor approve করেন। Aalto বলছে এই approval process maximum চার সপ্তাহ পর্যন্ত নিতে পারে, তাই project schedule-এ এই administrative time রাখা উচিত।

Supervisor এবং advisor-এর role

CHEM Master’s thesis-এ normally one supervisor এবং one or two advisors থাকে।

Supervisor সাধারণত Aalto University professor। School of Chemical Engineering current instructions কিছু lecturer এবং Professor of Practice role-কেও supervisor হিসেবে allow করে, এবং কিছু senior research role dean-এর individual permission-এ supervise করতে পারে।

Supervisor নিশ্চিত করেন thesis topic এবং completed work School-এর academic requirements meet করছে। Project-এর শেষে supervisor evaluation statement প্রস্তুত করেন এবং Degree Programme Committee-এর কাছে grade propose করেন।

Advisor topic-এর subject expert এবং কমপক্ষে Master’s degree holder হতে হবে। Company thesis হলে advisor external partner-এর representative হতে পারেন; Aalto researcher বা doctoral student-ও advisor হতে পারেন। Advisor practical guidance এবং writing/technical feedback দেন, কিন্তু formal thesis grade decide করেন না।

Kick-off meeting-এ student, supervisor এবং advisor(s)-এর মধ্যে responsibility clear করা খুব useful: কত ঘন ঘন meeting হবে, manuscript-এর কোন অংশ কে comment করবে, এবং progress কীভাবে report করা হবে।

Company thesis, Aalto project এবং abroad thesis

Aalto CHEM বিভিন্ন setting-এ thesis allow করে। Thesis হতে পারে:

• company অথবা external organisation-এর জন্য;
• Aalto research project-এর মধ্যে;
• grant funding নিয়ে;
• external funding ছাড়াই;
• abroad, যদি Aalto process এবং supervision maintain করা হয়।

Company thesis-এর academic standard কমে না। Supervisor topic-এর suitability ও scope approve করবেন এবং thesis Aalto rules অনুযায়ী assess হবে।

External organisation involve থাকলে salary, funding, equipment, work location, IP এবং confidential background material শুরুতেই discuss করা ভালো। Aalto external organisation-এর সঙ্গে student project-এর জন্য contract template দেয়। কিন্তু সেই contract thesis-কে confidential document বানায় না।

Kick-off meeting এবং research proposal

Topic suitable হওয়ার পর student, supervisor এবং advisor(s)-এর kick-off meeting হওয়া উচিত। Company involve থাকলে company representative-ও থাকতে পারে।

Current CHEM guidance অনুযায়ী research proposal-এ অন্তত এমন বিষয় clarify করা হয়:

• background এবং theoretical framework;
• research problem;
• main objective এবং interim objective;
• research methods;
• timetable এবং possible budget;
• analysis, synthesis এবং conclusions।

Aalto বলে main objective-কে question আকারে frame করা অনেক সময় useful। Engineering thesis-এর জন্য এটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, কারণ technical activity আর research question এক বিষয় নয়। Experiment run করা, model build করা অথবা simulation চালানো research question নয়। Thesis-এ explain করতে হবে কী determine করতে চাই এবং chosen method কীভাবে answer দেবে।

Workload: প্রায় 800 hours এবং সাধারণত প্রায় five months

School of Chemical Engineering খুব concrete workload baseline দেয়। 30 ECTS Master’s thesis-এর জন্য প্রায় 800 hours work ধরা হয় এবং project সাধারণত প্রায় five months-এ complete হয়।

Thesis page-এর administrative example-এ topic definition, kick-off, research planning, literature acquisition, experimental বা other project work, results, writing, presentation এবং evaluation roughly five-to-six-month calendar-এর মধ্যে দেখানো হয়েছে।

Actual calendar project অনুযায়ী different হতে পারে। Laboratory equipment delay, sample preparation, industrial process অথবা computational bottleneck timeline change করতে পারে। Student-এর personal reason বা concurrent study-ও elapsed calendar বাড়াতে পারে।

Extended schedule supervisor এবং advisor(s)-এর সঙ্গে agree করা যায়, কিন্তু CHEM বলে total thesis workload approximately 800 hours-এর বেশি হওয়া উচিত নয়। Agreed thesis deadline starting date থেকে one year-এর পরে হওয়া উচিত নয়।

অর্থাৎ calendar duration এবং academic workload একই জিনিস নয়।

Supervisor review-এর জন্য সময় রাখুন

CHEM final stage-এ supervisor review-এর জন্য যথেষ্ট সময় রাখতে বলে। Current thesis page supervisor-কে manuscript read, correct এবং comment করার জন্য approximately 2–3 weeks reserve করতে বলে।

তাই Degree Programme Committee deadline থেকে backward planning করলে final deadline-কে first complete draft supervisor-কে দেওয়ার date হিসেবে ধরা যাবে না। Supervisor feedback, correction, mandatory presentation এবং final upload deadline-এর আগেই complete করতে হবে।

Thesis language

Applicant-facing study option-এর language of instruction English। Student Guide programme-কে degree completion-এর জন্য multilingual হিসেবে describe করে এবং curriculum rules অনুযায়ী English, Finnish অথবা Swedish-এ study attainments করার option রাখে।

Master’s thesis English, Finnish অথবা Swedish-এ লেখা যায়। Thesis language degree certificate-এর language arrangement-এ effect ফেলে। তাই MyStudies starting process-এর সময় language choice clearly agree করা ভালো।

Practical structure এবং formatting

CHEM thesis page Aalto Master’s thesis template এবং detailed formatting guidance দেয়। Conventional scientific structure হিসেবে এমন element দেখানো হয়:

• title page;
• abstract;
• preface;
• table of contents;
• প্রয়োজন হলে symbols/abbreviations list;
• introduction;
• literature review;
• experimental অথবা methodological section;
• results and discussion;
• conclusions;
• references;
• প্রয়োজন হলে appendices।

School font, margin, line spacing, heading, paragraph spacing এবং page numbering-এরও practical guidance দেয়।

তবে এটিকে every thesis-এর জন্য rigid identical chapter template হিসেবে interpret করা উচিত নয়। Modelling-heavy বা design-oriented thesis-এর internal logic laboratory thesis থেকে different হতে পারে। Project-specific structure supervisor-এর সঙ্গে confirm করা উচিত।

Current public CHEM instructions কোনো universal thesis page count অথবা word count publish করে না। পুরোনো thesis অথবা অন্য Aalto school থেকে arbitrary length copy করা ঠিক হবে না।

Approval-এর আগে presentation

Completed thesis formal approval এবং evaluation-এর আগে present করতে হবে। Presentation অথবা similar showcase supervisor-এর সঙ্গে agreed time-এ arrange করা যায়।

CHEM সব student-এর জন্য একটি fixed oral-presentation seminar date publish করে না। Current guidance অনুযায়ী student supervisor-এর সঙ্গে presentation schedule agree করে। Graduation page-ও thesis approval application submit করার আগে relevant thesis seminar/presentation requirement complete করতে বলে।

অর্থাৎ presentation final upload-এর পরে নয়, thesis schedule-এর অংশ।

Maturity test: thesis abstract

School of Chemical Engineering-এ thesis abstract-ই Master’s maturity test। Aalto বলছে 1 August 2021 থেকে এই practice চলছে। Supervisor maturity test-এর content approve করেন।

Student-এর educational background অনুযায়ী language obligation different হতে পারে। Finnish বা Swedish proficiency এখনও demonstrate করতে হলে additional language check লাগতে পারে। International student-এর ক্ষেত্রে সাধারণত thesis language-এই maturity test হয়, প্রায়ই English-এ।

Maturity test pass/fail basis-এ assessed হয় এবং thesis-এর numerical grade determine করে না।

AI use এবং maturity-test boundary

Current Aalto AI guidance অনুযায়ী teacher বা assessment restriction না থাকলে AI learning support হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা যায়। Submitted work-এর accuracy, originality এবং academic integrity-এর responsibility student-এর। AI-generated text unmodified অবস্থায় নিজের লেখা হিসেবে submit করা যাবে না।

একটি hard boundary আছে: maturity exam-এ AI prohibited।

যেহেতু CHEM Master’s thesis abstract-কে maturity test হিসেবে define করে, তাই maturity-test abstract-কে AI-prohibited assessed component হিসেবে treat করা উচিত। Thesis-এর অন্য অংশে current Aalto, programme, supervisor এবং course guidance follow করতে হবে এবং required হলে permissible AI use transparently document করতে হবে।

Final submission: MyStudies এবং PDF/A

Supervisor final submission permission দেওয়ার পর thesis MyStudies-এ submit করা হয়। Grading-এর জন্য uploaded file-টাই final version।

Thesis approval apply করার সময় Sisu-তে valid এবং approved study plan থাকা উচিত।

Electronic archive-এর জন্য final thesis PDF/A format-এ submit করতে হয়। MyStudies-এ final file submit হওয়ার পর automatically Turnitin check হয় এবং supervisor report access করতে পারেন।

তাই final upload-এর আগে reference, figure/table, file conversion, template compliance এবং proofreading complete করা দরকার।

Public thesis, company secret এবং Aaltodoc

CHEM Master’s thesis approval-এর পর একটি public document।

Aalto Aaltodoc-এ abstract এবং metadata publish করে এবং full thesis archive করে। Student full-text online publication-এর permission দিতে পারেন। Publication, patent বা company-related reason থাকলে online publication approval date থেকে maximum one year delay করা যায়।

কিন্তু এই delay thesis-কে confidential করে না। Aalto স্পষ্ট করে approved thesis immediately public document হয়। Full online publication permission না থাকলে access arrangement different হতে পারে, কিন্তু thesis itself secret document হয় না।

Company thesis-এর ক্ষেত্রে confidential background material public report থেকে আলাদা রাখতে হবে। Trade secret বা non-public material report-এ include করার আগে supervisor এবং external partner-এর সঙ্গে legality ও public-status issue resolve করতে হবে।

Thesis evaluation কীভাবে হয়

CHEM শুধু final report নয়, entire thesis project evaluate করে। Student-এর development এবং learning outcomes evaluation criteria-এর সঙ্গে consider করা হয়।

Supervisor evaluation statement প্রস্তুত করেন এবং grade propose করেন। Advisor feedback supervisor consider করতে পারেন, কিন্তু advisors formal grade decide করেন না। Degree Programme Committee thesis এবং grade officially approve করে।

Final evaluation request-এর পর supervisor-এর evaluation report দেওয়ার জন্য সর্বোচ্চ চার সপ্তাহের framework আছে। কিছু extreme grade proposal-এর ক্ষেত্রে Committee additional qualified expert consult করতে পারে।

Thesis grade নিয়ে dissatisfied হলে notice পাওয়ার 14 days-এর মধ্যে Aalto University Academic Appeals Board-এ appeal করা যায়।

Current 2027 CHEM thesis-approval timetable

Aalto current School of Chemical Engineering graduation page-এ 2027-এর thesis approval schedule publish করেছে। সব graduation date thesis approval-এর জন্য ব্যবহার করা যায় না; কিছু date graduation-only এবং সেদিন Degree Programme Committee thesis meeting হয় না।

Current 2027 thesis-approval application dates:

• 17 February 2027 → Committee 9 March 2027;
• 21 April 2027 → Committee 18 May 2027;
• 26 May 2027 → Committee 15 June 2027;
• 30 July 2027 → Committee 24 August 2027;
• 22 September 2027 → Committee 12 October 2027;
• 17 November 2027 → Committee 7 December 2027;
• 31 December 2027 → Committee January 2028।

এই date-এর উপর plan করার আগে live graduation page অবশ্যই re-check করতে হবে। Supervisor review এবং presentation final application-এর আগেই complete করতে হবে।

একটি realistic project roadmap

Formal start-এর আগে

Potential research environment এবং supervisor identify করুন। Topic major-এর সঙ্গে fit করে কি না এবং 30 ECTS scope-এর জন্য যথেষ্ট substantive কি না discuss করুন। Company involve থাকলে কী public হবে এবং কী report-এর বাইরে থাকবে তা early clarify করুন।

Month 1

Topic এবং language agree করুন। One or two advisors identify করুন। MyStudies starting information submit করুন। Kick-off meeting করুন এবং research proposal তৈরি করুন। Research question, method, milestone এবং data/experimental need define করুন।

Months 1–3

Literature base build করুন এবং main experimental, modelling, computational, design অথবা other research work করুন। Advisor(s)-এর সঙ্গে regular contact রাখুন। Methodological change এবং deviations record করুন।

Months 3–5

Analysis complete করুন এবং writing এগিয়ে নিন। Results-কে research question এবং previous literature-এর সঙ্গে connect করুন। সব experiment শেষ না হওয়া পর্যন্ত writing postpone করবেন না।

Final review stage

Supervisor-কে mature manuscript enough early দিন যাতে 2–3 week review period রাখা যায়। Corrections complete করুন। Mandatory presentation দিন। Abstract/maturity test prohibited AI ছাড়া finalise করুন। PDF/A file verify করুন।

Submission and approval

Supervisor permission-এর পর final file MyStudies-এ submit করুন, Turnitin এবং supervisor evaluation-এর জন্য সময় রাখুন, এবং নিজের graduation plan-এর সঙ্গে fit করে এমন Degree Programme Committee date target করুন।

Final checklist

Final submission-এর আগে confirm করুন:

• topic, supervisor, advisor(s) এবং thesis language approved;
• personal study plan valid এবং approved;
• research proposal এবং main milestones complete;
• work agreed 30 ECTS scope-এর মধ্যে আছে;
• report appropriate CHEM/Aalto formatting guidance follow করে;

• references, figures, tables, equations এবং appendices complete;
• finished-thesis presentation complete;
• abstract/maturity test applicable language এবং AI rule meet করে;
• supervisor final submission authorise করেছেন;
• final file verified PDF/A;
• current CHEM deadline এবং Committee meeting re-check করা হয়েছে।

Final planning principle

Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering thesis process structured, কিন্তু every student-এর project mechanically identical নয়। Current secure framework হলো: 30 ECTS, about 800 hours, normally around five months, one supervisor, one or two advisors, research proposal, required presentation, abstract-as-maturity-test, MyStudies submission, PDF/A archive, public-document status এবং Degree Programme Committee approval।

এই framework-এর মধ্যে research problem detailed method এবং structure determine করবে। অন্য Aalto school বা programme থেকে word count, seminar credit অথবা thesis rule import না করে current CHEM instructions এবং নিজের supervisor-এর project-specific guidance follow করাই সবচেয়ে নিরাপদ।
